The
Health Science Library Association (HSLA) started to provide extensive services
and programs to its members. The association will support health science
librarians and healthcare professionals in sharing the bio-medical information
in Gujarat. The association also helps medical librarians and health science
professionals to access the most current information available on a plethora of
medical and health aspects.
The
HSLA provides a professional update to the medical & paramedical
librarians. Provides a platform for cooperative networking activities in
areas of library cooperation and its allied aspects. The association shall
perform to update formal and informal resources to their associates keeping in
mind the need for the hour for resource sharing, strengthening, and utilization
of for the betterment of effective clientele services end-users.
Vision
The
Health Science Library Association (HSLA) has faith in the quality information
which is essential for health enhancement. The HSLA aims to provide an alliance of
the most visible, valued, and trusted health information experts. To achieve
this, HSLA promotes excellence in the professional practice and leadership in health
science library and information services; thereby contribute to the quality of
health care, education, and research across the state.
Mission
The
Health Science Library Association (HSLA) has the following functions:
- Serve members by promoting mentorship and leadership.
- Develop leadership skills through exploring new roles, knowledge and skill update.
- To assist in the recruitment and retain individuals to the profession by promoting health sciences librarianship.
- Be the leading education facilitator of a profession by expanding the workshop and training programs to meet needs.
- Demonstrate the value of quality health information by promoting the ethical value of a profession.
- Develop and manage knowledge-base health information and research by promoting the creation of professional evidence-based research.
- To build a network of experts working in different areas to develop a local, regional, national, and international partnership.
About P.D.U. Government Medical College:
Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Government Medical College was started
in June 1995. Located in Rajkot city of Gujarat state, India is one of a few
handful government-run medical colleges of the state, working in association
with the P.D.U. Government Medical Hospital, lying in the same arena. P.D.U.
Medical College, Rajkot The college deals with undergraduate and postgraduate
courses in the medical profession. The four and half year undergraduate course
for the degree of MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery). It is
affiliated to Saurashtra University, Rajkot. The postgraduate course for the
degrees of M.S. (Master of Surgery) and M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) involves a variable number of seats according to the department of specialty concerned.
P.D.U. Central Library
Library premises are divided into two parts mainly – Central
Library and Library Reading Room. Central Library is situated on the 4th floor of
Medical College Building. The library remain open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:10 p.m.
Ground floor Library Reading Room is also made available for students &
staff for easy & quick accessibility which can accommodate 70 people at a
time which has separate sitting arrangement for U.G. & P.G. Students &
the reading room remains open on all days & 24×7. Central Library is
enriched by various medical subjects Books, Journals, Back-Volumes, Thesis,
CD/DVDs and Daily News Papers. The Central Library has a total of 18553 books at
present.
P.D.U. Virtual Library
Central Library has virtual library facilities, where faculty
members, residents, and students can access online databases, national and
international e-journals, online references and textbooks, etc. Virtual Library
has more than 1100 titles for the research and study.
